This ceramic mural draws inspiration from the Maroon textile traditions of Suriname, where pattern, color, and symbolism merge into a powerful decorative expression.

Three vertical bands alternate in red, black, and ivory, each filled with stylized palm leaves and geometric repetitions. Around the edges, a border of jungle-inspired leaves creates rhythm and continuity, evoking the textile borders of Afro-Surinamese ritual and domestic fabrics.

The composition evokes the Maroon heritage of Suriname, communities that preserved African aesthetics in the Americas, fusing them with new Caribbean forms. The repetitive linear motifs evoke woven strip fabrics, carved gourd patterns, and dyed textiles from villages along the Suriname and Marowijne Rivers.

The striking contrast of red, black, and white reflects traditional symbolic palettes (strength, balance, and continuity), while the mural's design evokes ceremonial textiles used in rituals, community identity, and storytelling.

More than just a decorative piece, this mural is a cultural tribute: it channels the resilience and artistry of Afro-Caribbean textile design, transformed here into ceramic for a lasting piece.

Composed of 15 x 15 cm tiles (approximately 15 x 15 cm), this mural is designed to bring depth and beauty to any space. Lovingly made in Barcelona, Spain. 🖊️ Do you have a special request or message? I'd love to create a custom version just for you.
